The City House became part of recent history when it was ripped apart by an IRA bomb, one Saturday morning in 1993. This was the second time the City House had been damaged by the IRA; this time it was totally destroyed and had to be rebuilt. It stands on the site of the Magpie and Punchbowl, a famous City pub that was demolished for office buildings in the 1980s. The City House has been owned by Young's since 1991.
